The KA500L has a Lithium Battery and can be charged using any of one of 3 different charging methods that include Hand-Cranking, Solar Panel, or from a USB Port. In addition, this radio has a 2,000 mAh Lithium Polymer battery which can be stored for long periods of time without significant damage to the battery.

It can be used for powering up the radio by plugging it into a wall outlet, also for charging the internal battery pack. It's also compatible with other Kaito emergency radios including KA500, KA550, KA600. It will NOT work with KA390, KA700, or KA900 model.
