Use this to prime (saturate) or to purge (back-flush) the Black Berkey Filters. Force air through the interior of the filter instead of water to clean out the micropores of the carbon filter. Purging the Black Berkey Filters clears the pores of debris that may accumulate from use or poor-quality source water. Chlorine dioxide has been used by municipal water treatment plants to kill a variety of waterborne pathogens since the late 1940s.
